On Safari

Our Kenyan guide and driver, Edward, came to the house we were staying at in Nairobi to pick us up. Brown Toyota Landcruiser. mnmsafaris Safari sign on the side. He is a safari veteran with 12 years @ mnmsafaris under his belt, and he knew how to handle the rough Kenyan roads with speed and agility. He answered all our questions enthusiastically and emphatically, saying in his deep, slightly accented English: "oh ya" to anything requiring an affirmative response and "oh, no, no, no, no, no" to the negative. He called the wildebeest an "ugly, ugly animal" (which it is, honestly, in a funny sort of way) and eagerly searched to show us all the cats he could find. Cheetahs were his favorite.

We were endeared to Edward and we loved being on safari. Seeing wild animals in their natural environment, in all their power and majesty and beauty and humor was an incredible experience and after the first game drive, I was hooked. We saw what safari enthusiasts call "the big five”— the lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo- as well as MANY other animals. And we didn't just peer out our binoculars, squinting our eyes to make out the shape of an animal in the distance. This was up close and personal— the lioness with her cub strutted RIGHT NEXT to our car, the elephant stood SO CLOSE we could hear him chewing the grass and stomping his foot angrily when we got a bit too close, the leopard gazing lazily from the tree right above us, the buffalo that stared us down, and the rhino that lumbered across the road. It was so fun to see all of the diverse and beautiful land and the wide variety of animals. A new and different side of Africa that I had not yet experienced. Here are a few more of my favorite pictures from our safari adventure:

Hello,

We've just recently returned from Kenya (today in actual fact), and we
wanted to drop you a line to say a 'BIG THANK YOU' to mnm safaris
for a great safari we had during the time.

We traveled to, (The Ark / Lake Nakuura / Masai Mara)
with MNM from Naoribi Serena:
Tuesday 11th - Tuesday 18th July
Our driver was : EDWARD

(we nicknamed him 'Eddie the Eagle', because his eye sight was so good
at seeing things)

Please can you ensure that your management team personally thank Edward
for an excellent job well done. We felt that we made a great friend
during the short time we had with Edward, and his knowledge and
communication skills (and smooth driving) ensured that we had an excellent and
fun time on safari.

Edward was a great embassador for your company, and please be assured
that we will recommend your company to our family and friends, and when
we come back to kenya, I hope that we can have Edward again as our
guide and friend.

Thank you again, and I hope that you pass on your thanks to Edward,

Kind Regards,

Malcolm & Maria James

Dear Edward,

Rosemarie and I would like to thank you for taking us on a Safari that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. Everything was perfect. We were thrilled to be the only people in your vehicle. We really appreciate you being sensitive to our wants. We love to stand there and savor the elephants, giraffes, the lioness nursing her cubs and the pregnant cheetah. You taught us all about the animals and life in the wild. It was quite an education too.

I noticed that you always had your vehicle waiting for us before the time you were going to take us for a game drive. I was also pleased that you took your time to check with another guide to see what they saw when they spent a whole day driving to the Serengeti. Because they didn’t see much we didn’t waste a precious day driving down there.

You were an ever-vigilant guide; always on the lookout for animal, potholes and rocks and at the same time answer our endless questions. We would like to take another safari someplace else but I can’t imagine having anybody as our guide but you! I would recommend you as a safari guide to anybody. And they are welcome to call me at 01-818-348-8266 in Los Angeles (Pacific Time Zone) and ask me anything they want about you as a guide or about MnM as a safari company.

I look forward to being with you again and once again thanks for creating an experience and memory that we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

Sincerely,

Jim Brown
